Is futures trading better than forex?
Honestly if you are only going to trade currency or gold futures then forex is better its a 24 hr a day market (closed on weekends) it makes your cash more liquid. It really depends on your situation if you want to trade soybeans or corn in the futures market then forex isn't for you.
Futures
These started trading back in the 1850s on the
CBoT. The very first contracts traded
on the CBoT where agriculture contracts. In 1969 CBoT starts its first
non-grain contract with a silver futures contract. Today they trade
everything from bonds to notes.
Forex
Up until the 1990s Forex was for the bigger players in the market
and was intended for bankers. With the growth of the internet more and
more firms are offering retail forex for the smaller traders. Forex has
no central exchange like the NYSE it is a OTC market.

Some common terms related to Forex and Futures
Options - A contract conferring the right but not the
obligation to buy or to sell a specified amount of an instrument at a
specified price within a predetermined time period.
Call - another name for buy in options terms
Put - Another name for sell in options terms
OTC - Over the counter
Limit Order - This is like making a hotel reservation if you will - You put up collateral to reserve a certain amount of currency or gold and when those terms are met, the deal will be transacted for you.
Forex Pip - This is a single unit of change in the price of a currency. This is usually (for most currencies) the fourth decimal place or roughly .01 percent.
Spread - This is simply the amount between the bid and the ask.
